This basket lets you increase the amount of coffee grounds you can add to the Barista Express machine.You struggle with the stock one to get 18g in the double basket, however with this I have fit upto 19g and there is still room for more.The coffee pulls nice and evenly and this can be seen using a bottomless portafilter.A great value addition to upgrade your machine.

Poor machining quality, but does fit stock portafilter.
Quality is very poor for a precision basket, even at the lower price end. Holes are off center, some holes are not properly machined. And machine marks inside basket are very are very rough. It does fit inside a stock breville spouted portafilter. Going to return and purchase a higher quality basket. Does look like it has larger holes than the stock basket though.

Can’t fault it
I ordered this thinking it was different to one I already had, but actually it’s identical, so I have a couple years worth of experience with this to report on.I haven’t used this with any genuine sage portafilters so can’t comment on that. I went straight on to a generic Chinese wooden handled naked portafilter when I got my machine – 54mm and this fits perfect. It is snug but in time you can remove it with the push of a finger from the bottom with a little resistance, but it also doesn’t fall out accidentally when knocking out the puck.The holes are nice and consistent if you hold it up to the light. It claims to be genuine IMS – if so I do think you can’t go wrong at this price and recommend combining this with a stainless mesh screen which is the perfect puck height for a standard 18g shot of espresso.Literally the only slight negative is you can’t fit a paper 54mm filter at the bottom because it slightly tapers. I’m not sure if anyone even does this, I just tried it because I had some. So its probably not even an issue.

Disappointing
I knew this would be too deep for the standard portafilter on my Bambino Plus but I have a bottomless so that was not an issue. I was disappointed though to not get a better shot than I was from the standard basket. I had assumed that being IMS there would be a noticeable different. Not the case.Perfectly good basket but if it’s no better than stock, I don’t see much point in spending money on it.
